All About Lenses
Think of lenses like big eyeballs. Light from a distant object, like a star or an invading army, travels in a straight line into the large lens at the far end of the telescope. The lens looks at this light just like your eyeball does, but since the lens is bigger it can see more details.
The curvature of the lens focuses the light to a point. The point is known as the focal plane and the distance from the lens to the point is called the focal length.
The large lens at the far end of a telescope is called the Objective Lens.
